SPRING SEMESTER in BARCELONA, SPAIN

Other people's guides from their study abroad experiences have been absolutely life-saving throughout this semester, so I wanted to create my own to share my experience with those interested and pass along my own recommendations!

A little bit about my program: I arrived in Barcelona on January 6th and will be flying home on May 25th, so I am living here for just under 5 months. My program is on the longer side due to the fact that my university, Universitat Pompeu Fabra, runs on a trimester schedule, and we are here for two of them. There are three programs for BC students in Barcelona, and between those three programs, there are about 30 students. I am a part of the BC in Barcelona: Business & Culture one, which is English-speaking.

My specific program, which consists of about 18 BC students, has this course structure:

  • First trimester: Two courses of our choosing at UPF (I took Ethics in a Globalization Context and Collective Intelligence Solutions to Global Problems)

  • Second trimester: Two business courses out of the three that are pre-approved by BC to count towards our business degree (I took International Marketing & International Finance)

  • A required semester-long course that we take together as a program that covers Barcelona's culture and history

We all live in a student housing complex called The Student Hotel, or TSH. We each have our own rooms & our own bathrooms, and then a kitchen that is shared with the people on our floor. There is also an optional meal plan that applies to the cafe on the first floor, and it's for three-course meals that are usually really good!

I've had such an incredible semester, and I'm excited to share my recommendations & takeaways from Barcelona & each place I've visited!
